This page explains the risks of taking part in FYGN programmes and the limits of our responsibility. It forms part of, and should be read with, the General Terms & Conditions. Nothing here excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Where a participant is under 18, a parent or legal guardian agrees to this page on the minor's behalf, to the extent permitted by law, as part of the consent to attend.
Voluntary participation and assumption of risk
Participation in any FYGN programme, summit or event is voluntary. International travel, group activities and off-site excursions carry inherent risks, and by attending you accept those inherent risks.
Release
By attending, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, you release FYGN, its organisers, employees, partners and volunteers from liability for:
- Health and safety: illness, injury, accident or health emergency occurring during the programme;
- Personal property: loss, theft or damage to belongings, luggage or devices; and
- Third-party actions: harm caused by third parties, venues or external service providers.
This release does not apply to the extent the harm was directly caused by FYGN's proven negligence, and never applies to liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Travel and medical insurance is required
Every international delegate must hold comprehensive travel and medical insurance before arrival. FYGN does not provide health or travel insurance. You are solely responsible for the costs of medical treatment, hospitalisation, emergency repatriation, lost luggage and flight cancellation, and we may ask for proof of insurance on arrival.
Off-site excursions
Events may include off-site excursions and recreational activities (which, depending on the Event, may include desert, water-based, cultural or other adventure activities) delivered by independent third-party operators under their own safety rules. Follow all safety instructions. You participate at your own risk, and FYGN is not liable for the acts or omissions of independent operators.
Travel and visas
You are responsible for your own travel arrangements and immigration compliance. Invitation letters support a visa application and never guarantee one (General Terms, section 5). We are not responsible for costs or losses arising from visa refusal or delay, flight cancellations, accommodation issues, travel disruption, weather, or changes in local regulations. Do not book non-refundable flights until your visa is issued.
Events outside our control
FYGN is not liable or financially responsible for any failure to perform due to events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, epidemics or pandemics, political instability, war or civil unrest, government restrictions, strikes, or major infrastructure failure. In such cases FYGN may reschedule or modify the event; refund treatment follows the Refund & Financial Policy, and refunds of travel expenses are not provided.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FYGN is not liable for illness, injury, loss, theft, visa issues, travel disruption or accommodation failures except to the extent directly caused by FYGN's proven negligence, and our total aggregate liability in connection with an Event is limited to the amounts you paid us for that Event. This page is governed by the law and jurisdiction stated in the General Terms, without prejudice to mandatory protections available to consumers or minors under their local law.
Photography and filming
At checkout, every delegate agrees to be photographed and filmed during the summit, and to FYGN using that material to promote its programmes on a non-commercial basis: on our website, in our social media, in press about our programmes, and in future programme publications. We do not sell this material or license it commercially. Individual credit is not guaranteed.
If you appear in material and want it taken out of future use, email privacy@fygn.org and we will stop using it in new publications; material already printed or published may remain. If there are specific moments you do not want to be filmed at the Event, tell our staff on site and we will accommodate that where reasonably possible. For participants under 18, a parent or guardian may raise or withdraw this on the minor's behalf at the same address.
